Shirt condition

Perfect condition

For a shirt made at the end of 2001, I found nothing to fault. The royal blue is bright and even, the purple side panels have not faded, and the breathable front mesh shows no snags or pilling. The embroidered rooster is dense with no pulled threads, and the tricolour shoulder stripes are crisp. The DJORKAEFF 6 printing is smooth and complete.

Not sure about the size? This XXL measures 64 x 83 cm: compare with the flat measurements below, or check my size guide.

Flat measurements

A true XXL, wide and long, typical of the straight cuts of the time. Lay a shirt that fits you well flat, measure it the same way and compare.

100% AUTHENTIC

✦ Lifetime authenticity guarantee

Item checked by hand in my authentication workshop. If an item bought from me ever turned out not to be authentic, I refund it in full. No expiry date: only original pieces, never modern reissues.

  • adidas inner tag: model code 298742, factory code AKU001 and production date 11/01, printed on a small white tag sewn into the side seam (photo 4)
  • Embroidered FFF crest: gold-thread rooster with red comb, F.F.F. cartouche and the star of the 1998 title embroidered directly onto the fabric, with no pulled threads (photo 3)
  • Fabric and cut: breathable perforated mesh across the front, purple panels under the arms, the straight and long cut of the period (photos 2 and 3)
  • Finishing: white embroidered adidas logo, ribbed blue V-neck, three white stripes edged in red on the shoulders (photos 1 and 2)

Workshop note — Before switching to alphanumeric codes, adidas identified its models with six digits: the 298742 code and the 11/01 date are consistent with production for the 2002 season. The printing was applied in my workshop, so I never use it as proof: my expertise is on the shirt itself.

Youri Djorkaeff's last tournament

In 2002, France arrived in Asia as reigning world and European champions. Youri Djorkaeff, part of both winning squads in 1998 and 2000, still wore the number 6: this World Cup would be his last in blue.

31 May 2002: opening match in Seoul, a 1-0 defeat to Senegal. Zidane, with a thigh injury, was missing.

11 June 2002: after a 0-0 draw with Uruguay, a 2-0 defeat to Denmark. France went out in the group stage without scoring a single goal.

Djorkaeff left the national team after the tournament with 82 caps and 28 goals. This royal blue shirt, with its single star above the rooster, marks the end of an era for the world-champion generation.

More France pieces are waiting in my France national team shirts, and the whole decade in my 2000s collection.

Frequently asked questions

Why only one star above the rooster?

In 2002, France had only one world title, from 1998. The second star only arrived after the 2018 win.

What do the markings on the tag mean?

298742 is the adidas model code, AKU001 the factory code and 11/01 the production date (November 2001). You can type 298742 into a search engine to check the model yourself.

How can I check the shirt is authentic?

Look for the white tag in the side seam: the code 298742 and the date 11/01 must be there. The rooster must be embroidered in relief, and the front mesh must be perforated with small, regular holes.

How does this XXL fit?

Large: 64 cm pit to pit and 83 cm long. If you wear XXL today, it will fit normally; a regular XL will wear it loose, early-2000s style.

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Shipped within 24-48 h with tracking: €5.99 in France, €9.99 to the EU, free from €99.99. You have 14 days to return the shirt if it does not suit you. All the details in my shipping FAQ.
