Summer 2017 started badly for Barça: Neymar left for PSG. Under Ernesto Valverde, Lionel Messi took an even bigger role in the Catalan game.

Barça won La Liga with a run of 43 league matches unbeaten, ended only on the penultimate matchday. Messi finished as the league's top scorer with 34 goals and won the European Golden Shoe.

21 April 2018: in the Copa del Rey final, Barça crushed Sevilla 5-0. Messi scored, and it was Andrés Iniesta's last final in these colours.

In the Champions League, the campaign ended in the quarter-finals against AS Roma, despite a 4-1 first-leg win.
