Zidane's Jersey: The 3 Pieces That Are Worth a Fortune (2026 Valuation)
There are good players. There are legends. And then there's Zinédine Zidane. In the world of vintage jerseys, a Zidane jersey isn't just a piece of clothing: it's a museum piece that gains value every year. Juventus No. 21, Real Madrid No. 5, France No. 10 — every kit worn by Zizou is now hunted by collectors worldwide, and authentic pieces are becoming increasingly rare.
I've been authenticating vintage jerseys for years, and I can confirm: Zidane jerseys are the most counterfeited on the French market. This guide provides their real value in 2026, the pitfalls to avoid, and the authenticated pieces currently available at Pure Football Shirts.
⚡ Quick Answer
Zidane wore 3 iconic numbers during his career: No. 21 at Juventus (1996-2001, Del Piero wore 10), No. 5 at Real Madrid (2001-2006, an atypical number for a playmaker), and No. 10 for the French national team (1994-2006). 2026 value: Juventus Kappa €350-800, Real Madrid €400-1400 (centenary 2001-02 rarest), France 1998 and 2006 between €280 and €1500 depending on authentication and condition.

Why Zidane's jersey has become a safe haven
Unlike "hype" players whose value fluctuates with the seasons, Zidane has been a stable and growing asset for 15 years. Three reasons explain this phenomenon, which I concretely observe in my workshop.
First, rarity that mechanically increases. Zidane retired in 2006: the jerseys he actually wore are no longer produced, and there will never be new ones. Each year, some of these jerseys disappear from the market (private collections, degradation, loss). The supply only decreases. Demand, meanwhile, increases with each new generation of supporters.
Next, the multiplier effect of the three mythical clubs. Zidane is one of the few players in the world whose every jersey — Juventus, Real Madrid, France — is cult. For Cristiano Ronaldo, early career Manchester United jerseys sell poorly compared to Real ones. For Zizou, all three clubs simultaneously drive the value up.
Finally, a cultural dimension that transcends football. The 2006 headbutt, the Glasgow volley, the 1998 victory: these moments go beyond sport. The jerseys associated with them become objects imbued with collective emotion. To understand how these phenomena translate into financial value, consult my complete guide to the value of rare jerseys.
Juventus: the Zidane everyone is looking for (and can no longer find)

This is the most coveted period on the market in 2026, and the hardest to find. Between 1996 and 2001, Zidane played five seasons at Juventus — five years that produced fewer available jerseys today than his five years at Real Madrid, for a simple reason: Kappa's production runs from that era were more limited, and Italy did not yet have the culture of preservation that exists today.
What was Zidane's number at Juventus?
Zidane wore the number 21 at Juventus Turin, from his arrival in 1996 until his transfer to Real Madrid in 2001. The number 10 was then occupied by Alessandro Del Piero, a club icon, who never relinquished it. Zidane therefore built his entire Italian legend with No. 21 on his back — a crucial detail for authenticating a Juventus Zidane jersey: a No. 10 flocking on a Juve kit from this period is either a mistake or a counterfeit.
The 2026 value of Juventus Zidane jerseys
The most sought-after pieces on my market are the Kappa jerseys from the 1996-97 to 2000-01 seasons. Here are the value ranges I currently observe for authentic pieces in good condition:
— Kappa 1996-97 "Sony" home (black and white stripes): €450 to €800. This is the jersey from the Intercontinental Cup victory and his first Serie A with Juve. Rare in large sizes.
— Kappa 1998-99 "D+ Libertà Digitale": €350 to €650. Iconic sponsor, timeless cut. The purists' favorite.
— Kappa 1999-2000 "Sony" (Sony returns): €400 to €700. Season of a UEFA Cup final.
— Kappa 2000-01 "Tu+ / Ciao Web": €350 to €600. The last season before the transfer to Real.
These values apply to authenticated jerseys with official flocking. Without official flocking, deduct 30 to 40%. A Juventus Zidane jersey without any flocking still remains a historical season jersey and retains 60 to 70% of its value.
Why are these jerseys so rare in 2026?
Three technical reasons that I observe daily. Firstly, Kappa's production runs in the late 90s were much more limited than Adidas or Nike's at the same time. Secondly, Italy has a culture of "jersey worn, then forgotten" — many 90s Juve jerseys were simply thrown away or damaged. Thirdly, **beware of fakes**: this is the most counterfeited period on the market. A fake Kappa 96-97 is so well-made today that it takes years of experience to spot it.
My authenticator's tip: on authentic Kappa Juventus 96-97 jerseys, the "O" letters in the Sony sponsor are slightly elliptical, never perfectly round. Modern counterfeits almost always use perfectly circular "O"s — this is the quickest way to tell in 10 seconds.

Real Madrid: the Galactico era and the mythical No. 5
When Zidane arrived in Madrid in the summer of 2001 for 75 million euros (a world record at the time), an anomaly occurred: the French playmaker was assigned the number 5, traditionally reserved for central defenders. This atypical number, worn from 2001 to 2006, became a unique visual signature in football history. No other great international number ten wore the 5.
This peculiarity makes Real Madrid Zidane jerseys instantly identifiable and extremely desirable. The absolute must-have on the market remains the centenary 2001-2002 jersey, all white, without a sponsor — the one he wore the night of his volley in Glasgow against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League final. On the 2026 market, an authentic Zidane-flocked piece of this model ranges from €700 to €1,400.
Subsequent seasons (2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06 with Siemens Mobile then BenQ-Siemens sponsors) are more accessible and just as culturally significant. For fans of Bloke Core style, these Real Madrid Galacticos jerseys are absolute pieces, easily wearable every day.

Twelve years with the French national team jersey, two World Cups (1998 won, 2006 final), one Euro (2000 won), and the FIFA World Player of the Year title three times. The French National Team jersey with Zidane No. 10 is one of the most emotionally charged pieces in all of world football.
The three periods most sought after by collectors are the 1998 World Cup (the holy grail: Adidas home jersey with No. 10 flocking, €600 to €1,500 depending on provenance), the 2006 World Cup (the Berlin final, the headbutt, €280 to €550), and the Euro 2004 / 2004-2006 jerseys (both end of club career and national selection, very symbolic).
One piece of information I want to clarify: France 98 "Zidane flocking" jerseys available at low prices on marketplaces are, in 95% of cases, modern reissues or fakes. The authentic one can be recognized by the Adidas Equipment fabric of the time, the embroidered red stripes (not printed), and an internal product code that I systematically check. For the complete rules, my complete authentication guide details the 7 points to check.

View shirtMy authenticator's advice: 3 things to check on any Zidane jersey
Before buying a vintage Zidane jersey on a marketplace or at a flea market, always check these three points. In 15 years of experience, 95% of fakes are spotted using this simple method.
1. The flocking and its typography. Each club and each equipment manufacturer had an official flocking font for each era. A "ZIDANE" in Arial on a Juve Kappa 97 jersey is a fake — the Kappa font of the time was a variant of Times. On France 98 jerseys, the characters were slightly vertically compressed, which modern counterfeits almost always forget.
2. The internal product code. Every authentic Adidas jersey from 1996 to 2026 has a product code printed on the inner label (example: 072298 for my France 2006, 367842 for my Real 2004-05). This code can be verified in the Adidas archives. A jersey without a code, or with a code that does not match the announced year, is suspect. For full details, see my Adidas anti-counterfeiting guide.
3. Competition patches. A France 2006 jersey with an irregularly heat-pressed "2006 Germany World Cup" patch is a counterfeit. The real FIFA patches were embroidered and sewn. The same goes for the Juventus Scudetto or Real Champions League patches — I have authenticated all of them, I know the differences down to the millimeter. Consult my authentication workshop to see the method in detail.
The verdict: which Zidane jersey to buy in 2026?
If you are looking for the safest investment, go for an authenticated France 1998 or a Real Madrid Centenary 2001-02 — certain ratings, structural demand, no risk of depreciation.
If you are looking for the piece to wear daily in Bloke Core style, opt for a Real Madrid 2004-05 Siemens Mobile (mine at €104.99 does the job perfectly) or a France 2004-2006 away — modern cuts, perfect lifestyle.
If you are looking for the ultimate collector's gem, hunt for the Juventus Kappa 1996-97 Sony. Unfindable new, rare in XL-XXL, value increasing every year. I have authenticated three in five years. If you find one for less than €400 with good flocking, buy it without hesitation.
And in all cases: check authenticity before paying. For a Zidane piece, a well-made fake costs as much as a mediocre real one. The only difference is that the real one gains value and the fake loses it.
