Shirt condition

Very good condition

📐 Flat measurements: not recorded for this item. This is a long-sleeve goalkeeper shirt with padded elbows, deliberately cut looser than an outfield shirt — message me before buying if you want me to measure it, I will do it the same day.

A very fine example for a shirt over twenty years old: black fabric with no fading, padded elbows intact, BARTHEZ No.16 printing in excellent condition. The only flaw found: wear on the white adidas stripes on the sleeves, with some cracking and a small chip — visible in photos 6 and 7. No holes, no stains.

100% AUTHENTIC

✦ Authenticity guaranteed for life

Item checked by hand in my authentication workshop. If an item bought from me is ever identified as a counterfeit, I refund it in full. Guarantee with no expiry date.

  • Original adidas label dated 11/03 with product code 641664 (photo 4) — a late-2003 production date perfectly consistent with a kit worn in 2004
  • FFF cockerel embroidered in gold thread with a single star (photo 3) — impossible to find on any post-2018 shirt, where France wear two
  • Period goalkeeper construction: applied padded elbows, ventilated orange panels, tricolour flag stitched at the lower back
  • Full method: authentication guide

🛠️ Workshop note — BARTHEZ No.16 printing in the perforated adidas lettering typical of the mid-2000s (photo 5), with the number also on the chest. The 16 is the historic number of the France first-choice goalkeeper.

📖 2004: the last chapter of the most famous head in French football

Goalkeeper shirts from this generation are the rarest on the vintage market: produced in tiny runs, worn by one man on the pitch, and rarely kept. This one carries the name of Fabien Barthez, the goalkeeper of the 1998 title and Euro 2000, on France's black and orange kit from the Portuguese Euro era.

🏆 1998 — World champion. Barthez kept goal for France throughout the home World Cup, with a run of clean sheets that became legendary. That single star is the one on the cockerel of this shirt.

🇪🇺 2000 — European champion. Two years later France added the Euro to the honours list. Barthez remained the undisputed number 1 of one of the greatest teams in history.

🇵🇹 2004 — the Euro in Portugal. France arrived as defending champions. Barthez was still there, in goal, with the authority of experience. That is exactly the period of this shirt.

👑 Fabien Barthez — born in Lavelanet in 1971, Champions League winner with Olympique de Marseille in 1993 at the age of 21, world champion in 1998 and European champion in 2000. The most iconic goalkeeper in France's history, and one of the most imitated in schoolyards of the 2000s.

🎯 Who is this shirt for?

← Scroll →

01

The goalkeeper shirt collector

This is the rarest category in vintage: one kit per match, produced in a tiny run. A France 2004 GK shirt printed Barthez is not something you will see ten of.

02

The France nostalgic

98, 2000, 2004: the one-star cockerel and Barthez's name are an entire childhood of French football summed up on one garment.

03

The technical piece lover

Padded elbows, ventilated panels, embossed diamond pattern: this is a piece of engineering, not just a logo t-shirt.

04

The gift nobody already has

Everyone has given an outfield shirt before. Giving the shirt of the 1998 goalkeeper is the move nobody made before you.

Not sure about your choice? My Mystery Box offer is an excellent alternative — just add « France » in your order notes.

❓ Frequently asked questions about this shirt

Is the shirt 100% authentic?

Yes. Original adidas label 11/03 with code 641664 (photo 4), gold embroidered one-star FFF cockerel, period goalkeeper construction. Authentication carried out in my workshop, real photos of the exact item sold, lifetime authenticity guarantee.

What are the exact measurements?

I have not recorded them for this item, and I would rather not invent anything. Message me through the contact page before buying: I will measure the shirt flat (pit to pit and shoulder to hem) and reply the same day. Note that a goalkeeper shirt runs wider than an outfield shirt of the same size.

Is the sleeve stripe wear a problem?

These are cracks and a small chip in the white film of the three stripes on the sleeves (photos 6 and 7). It is the classic flaw of these heat-applied stripes after twenty years. The fabric underneath is intact and nothing is peeling off.

Why only one star on the cockerel?

Because in 2004 France had won only one World Cup, in 1998. The second star arrived in July 2018. A one-star crest therefore dates the shirt beyond dispute.

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Shipped within 48 working hours with Colissimo tracking (€5.99 in mainland France, free from €100). International rates and delivery times detailed on my shipping FAQ. Returns accepted within 14 days if unworn.
