Lay a shirt that fits you well flat, measure it the same way and compare — vintage often sizes differently from new.

No flaws. The yellow is bright and perfectly even — on this colour the slightest stain or faded patch would show immediately, and there is none. The orange zigzag pattern keeps all its contrast. The V-neck holds its shape, the three black shoulder stripes are crisp, and the inner labels are complete and perfectly legible. The nameset and sponsors are flawless, with no cracking.

100% AUTHENTIC

✦ Authenticity guaranteed for life

Item checked by hand in my authentication workshop. If a piece bought from me is ever identified as a fake, I refund it in full. Guarantee with no expiry date.

  • Inner label photographed (photo 4): reference HF3410 and production date 02/22. February 2022, the run produced for the 2022-2023 season
  • The zigzag pattern is woven, not printed: that's the decisive test on this model. The orange chevrons are produced by a raised jacquard — you can feel them under your finger and they catch the light differently depending on the angle. Copies print the pattern flat onto plain yellow
  • Embroidered eagle, with three stars above: the bird and the spoked wheel are raised embroidery and the motto on the crest stays legible under a loupe. On a copy the whole thing is heat-pressed and the wheel detail is lost
  • The tram pictogram under the back collar: a small yellow eléctrico screen-printed just below the neckline, a nod to Lisbon's trams. It's a detail replicas almost always omit
  • Real photos of the exact shirt for sale, never stock images — full method in my authentication guide

🛠️ Workshop note — Yellow is the most unforgiving colour there is on a football shirt. It lets nothing slide: an old sweat mark, contact with a dark textile in the wash, simply being stored in a bright room, and the fabric takes on a greenish or mustard cast in patches. That's why I always check a yellow shirt in daylight, laid flat, comparing the front, the back and the inside of the sleeves. On this one, all three areas are rigorously the same tone. A four-year-old yellow in this state means a shirt kept folded, out of the light, and barely ever washed.

📖 The year the 87 first appeared

A yellow shirt with chevrons, a number 87 on the back: this piece marks the very beginning of the story, the season an eighteen-year-old midfielder stepped out of the academy and into the first team.

🏆 Portuguese champions 2022-2023. Benfica won Liga Portugal at the end of this season — the title that earned them the gold champions badge the following year.

🌟 João Neves' debut. It was in 2022-2023 that he made his first first-team appearances. Two years later he signed for Paris Saint-Germain.

⭐ A notable European run. Benfica reached the Champions League quarter-finals that season — hence the Starball on the sleeve.

🚋 A shirt that talks about Lisbon — the yellow, the chevrons, and that little tram hidden under the back collar: adidas produced one of the club's most narrative away kits here, a postcard of the city rather than just a second shirt.

👉 I also have his Benfica 2023-2024 away shirt in size L, from his final Lisbon season — together the two cover his whole spell at the club. The rest is in my 2020s collection.

❓ Frequently asked questions about this shirt

Is the nameset original?

No, and I'd rather be straight with you: the shirt is 100% authentic, but the JOÃO NEVES No.87 nameset is a premium reproduction that I applied by hand in my workshop, in the official font of the 2022-2023 season. That's an advantage: it's brand new, guaranteed not to crack or peel.

And the Champions League sleeve patches?

Same thing: I applied them in the workshop at the same time as the nameset. So they aren't period patches and they aren't proof of anything. What proves the shirt is authentic is the referenced label, the embroidered eagle and the woven zigzag — not what was added afterwards.

How do you know it's really 2022-2023?

The inner label carries the adidas reference HF3410 and the production date 02/22. February 2022 matches the run produced for the 2022-2023 season: the two pieces of information line up, and you can check the reference yourself.

How do you look after a yellow shirt?

Three rules are enough to keep it like new: wash at 30°C inside out and never with dark items (yellow picks up colour transfer faster than any other shade), no fabric softener, and dry flat in the shade. Direct sun is what turns yellow green — don't hang it outside to dry.

Does 10/10 mean brand new?

Here it means no flaws at all: no fading, no pilling, no stretching, complete inner labels. It doesn't have its original cardboard tags, but its condition is that of a shirt that has barely been used.

How does this M fit?

Measured flat: 52 cm pit to pit and 76 cm long. A modern adidas M, fairly true to size, with a generous length in line with current cuts. If you wear an M today, it should suit you as is.

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Sent within 48 working hours with Colissimo tracking (€5.99 in mainland France, free from €100). International rates and delivery times are detailed in my shipping FAQ. Returns accepted within 14 days if unworn.
