The Seagulls' stripes, season 2014-2015

Blue and white in broad vertical bands, white collar and cuffs, an embroidered seagull on the chest and the American Express band across the torso: Brighton & Hove Albion's home shirt for 2014-2015, by Nike. The club was then in the Championship, England's second tier, three years before its promotion to the Premier League.

The shirt

This is a supporter shirt, delivered blank on the back — no name, no number. For anyone wanting their own name applied, or simply to wear the colours without being tied to a player, it is the most open configuration there is. The crest is embroidered in relief, with the seagull and the Brighton & Hove Albion ring lettering. The swoosh is applied in black on the white chest band.

Authentication

• Authenticity code: 580917-464, the Nike reference for the Brighton 2014-2015 home shirt, legible on the label (photo 4).
• The FA14 prefix on the same label denotes the Fall 2014 collection — the production window expected for this season.
• The Nike AUTHENTIC label sewn at the lower side seam (photo 6), with its “designed to the specifications of championship athletes” wording.
• The raised embroidered crest, with tight stitching and clean outlines — on reproductions the seagull is almost always printed or crudely embroidered.
• The Dri-FIT fabric striped in the weave rather than printed: the blue and white bands are woven, visible from both sides.

What is worn:

• the American Express chest sponsor: the blue ink is faded and slightly patchy in places, as photo 3 shows. The white band remains firmly attached, but the lettering has lost density;
• the small nape logo (photo 5): the most damaged point on the shirt, its screen print flaked across much of its surface;
• a hem seam at the lower front, where a blue thread stands proud (photo 6);
• general wear to the fabric, normal on a shirt worn for over ten years.

What is in good condition: the embroidered crest, intact with no pulled threads; the swoosh; the stripes, whose colours remain strong; collar and cuffs, undeformed; the fabric, with no holes or stains.

Why the low price?
Because the sponsor wear is real and visible. The same shirt in 9/10 would sell for considerably more. We would rather show the flaw and adjust the price than the other way round.

Can a name be printed on the back?
Yes, the back is entirely blank. That is precisely what makes this piece useful for anyone wanting custom lettering.

Will the sponsor wear get worse?
It progresses with hot washing and tumble drying. Wash at 30°C inside out, air dry: under those conditions it stabilises.

Was Brighton in the Premier League that season?
No. In 2014-2015 the club was in the Championship. Its first Premier League season was 2017-2018.
