No flaws. The concentric wave pattern is still perfectly legible across the whole shirt — it is the first thing that blurs on an over-washed piece, and it is intact here. The orange of the Etihad sponsor and of the printing has not turned, with no cracking in the letters. The navy on the shoulders and sleeves has not greyed. Both MLS patches are perfectly bonded, the applied circular crest is crisp, the V-neck holds its shape, and the orange and navy side stripes are sharp. No pilling, no snags.

100% AUTHENTIC

✦ Authenticity guaranteed for life

Item checked by hand in my authentication workshop. If an item bought from me is ever identified as a counterfeit, I refund it in full. Guarantee with no expiry date.

  • Inner label photographed (photo 4): adidas reference AC0340 and production date 10/15. October 2015, the run prepared for the 2016-2017 cycle — adidas then produced MLS kits across two seasons
  • The wave pattern is dyed into the knit, not screen-printed: it reappears as a faded negative on the reverse, and the fabric stays soft everywhere. On a fake, the pattern sits on the surface and stiffens the chest
  • The circular crest is an applied, stitched badge (photo 3): the NYC monogram stands out in relief, with the two dots either side perfectly centred
  • The MLS shield on both sleeves: MLS requires a patch on each sleeve, while most leagues use only one. An MLS shirt with a single patch should raise a flag
  • Real photos of the exact item sold, never stock images — full method in my authentication guide

🛠️ Workshop note — Zoom in on the 7 in photo 5: the orange is not solid. The number is edged with a micro-dot texture all along its inner outline, and the MLS shield is printed in blue at the base of the 7. Two signatures of the official MLS font of that period. The print also reads “DAVID VILLA” in full, first name included, exactly as it appeared on his shirt — a re-print almost always settles for “VILLA”.

📖 El Guaje in New York

World champion, European champion, Spain's all-time leading scorer — and captain of an MLS club born a year earlier. David Villa's spell in New York is one of the most significant in the recent history of the American league.

🏆 MLS MVP in 2016. Villa was voted the league's best player at 34, in the first season of this shirt. It is hard to date a piece more precisely than that.

🗽 NYCFC's first captain. Signed before the club had even played a game, he wore the armband from 2015 to 2018 and became the face of the franchise.

🇪🇸 A legendary career before that. Valencia, Barcelona, Atlético, the 2010 World Cup, Euro 2008. The New York 7 is the same player.

🎨 An away kit like no other — blue concentric waves, almost like a radar signal, with electric orange as a counterpoint. adidas never revisited this pattern, which is what makes it a highly sought-after collector's shirt outside the United States.

🎯 Who is this shirt for?

← Swipe →

01

The David Villa fan

The shirt from his MVP season, printed “DAVID VILLA” in full just as it was on the pitch.

02

The MLS collector

MLS shirts from this period barely circulate in Europe. This one, with this print, even less.

03

The design lover

A blue and orange concentric wave pattern adidas never used anywhere else.

04

The Spain supporter

2010 world champion, 2008 European champion: the New York 7 is the same player.

Not sure? My Mystery Box offer is a great alternative — just write “MLS” in the order notes.

❓ Frequently asked questions about this shirt

Why is the label dated 10/15 for a 2016-2017 shirt?

Because MLS plays on the calendar year: kits released for the 2016 season are produced the previous autumn. At the time, adidas designed MLS shirts to run across two consecutive seasons — hence 2016-2017.

Why “DAVID VILLA” and not just “VILLA”?

Because that is how he was registered in MLS, and therefore how the name appeared on his shirt. It is a useful marker: prints added later usually settle for the surname alone.

Has the pattern faded?

No. The concentric waves are dyed into the knit, not printed on the surface: they do not wash out. The contrast between the blues is as sharp as it was originally, and the orange has not turned either. The photos show the exact item sold.

Is this shirt authentic?

Yes. adidas label referenced AC0340 and dated, pattern dyed into the knit, applied and stitched crest, two official MLS patches and micro-dot textured printing with a built-in MLS shield. Lifetime authenticity guarantee, full refund if a doubt is ever proven.

How does this S fit?

Measured flat: 49 cm pit to pit and 71 cm long. A 2015-2016 adidas S, fitted without being tight. If you wear a S and prefer a roomier fit, size up.

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Shipped within 48 working hours with Colissimo tracking (€5.99 in mainland France, free over €100). International rates and delivery times are detailed in my shipping FAQ. Returns accepted within 14 days if unworn.
