⚠️ Read this before buying — two points, and the first is about sizing

1. This is a TechFit player issue: it runs very small. 40 cm pit to pit is not a measuring error. TechFit is a compression shirt, designed to be worn tight to the body by an athlete. If you normally wear a S, this shirt will feel tight on you. Read the flat measurements below before ordering.

2. The Fly Emirates sponsor on the front shows light wear — fine scuffs in the white of the letters, visible in photo 7. That's the original 2012 print, and I haven't retouched it. Nothing is lifting.

📐 Flat measurements

Width (pit to pit)40 cm
Length (shoulder to hem)71 cm

40 cm wide is the measurement of a compression shirt, not a retail one. TechFit fabric is stretchy — it gives noticeably as you put it on — but it's still built to be worn tight. Lay a close-fitting sports top that suits you flat, measure it the same way and compare with that figure.

Shirt condition

Excellent condition

The red is bright and the black deep, without the shift towards orange that gives away tired striped shirts. The fine green and white lines between the stripes are crisp. The white polo collar is the weak point on this model — it greys quickly — and this one has stayed clean, with both buttons present and an unstretched placket. The TechFit knit hasn't lost its elasticity. Only flaw: the front sponsor wear described above (photo 7).

SizeS — TechFit compression cut, runs very small (see measurements above)
Manufactureradidas — TechFit player issue, not the retail version
Season2012-2013 — the year Balotelli arrived at San Siro
VersionHome, red and black stripes, green and white pinlines, white polo collar
SponsorFly Emirates, white — original factory print (see flaw above)
NamesetBALOTELLI No.45 in white — premium reproduction, applied by hand in my workshop, in the official font of the season
PatchesChampions League Starball, seven-European-Cup badge and RESPECT band — applied in my workshop, like the back nameset
Production date04/12 — readable on the label (photo 4)

Unsure about the size? On a TechFit, don't trust the letter: 40 x 71 cm is a compression S. Compare the flat measurements, or read my size guide.

100% AUTHENTIC

✦ Authenticity guaranteed for life

Item checked by hand in my authentication workshop. If a piece bought from me is ever identified as a fake, I refund it in full. Guarantee with no expiry date.

  • The TECHFIT marking inside the sleeve (photo 6): that's the proof of the player issue, and I photographed it deliberately. The "player version" replicas sold online never carry that inner marking, or they print it on the outside
  • Inner label photographed (photo 4): reference W37548 and production date 04/12. April 2012, the run produced for the 2012-2013 season
  • The tricolour pinlines between the stripes: look closely at photo 7 — each black band is edged with a green thread and a white thread, a nod to the Italian flag woven into the knit. Copies always simplify that detail
  • Zoned TechFit knit: the fabric on the body is denser than on the sides, with ergonomic flat seams. That's match-shirt construction, noticeably different from the retail jersey
  • Real photos of the exact shirt for sale, never stock images — full method in my authentication guide

🛠️ Workshop note — Everyone sells "player versions". Here's how I actually settle it. The first check isn't the logo, it's the width laid flat: a genuine TechFit in S measures around 40 cm, where the retail version of the same model measures 48 to 50. A so-called player version that measures like a normal shirt isn't one. Only then do I look for the TECHFIT marking inside the sleeve (photo 6), and finally run a hand inside to feel the flat seams. Three checks, in that order. This one passes all three.

📖 Super Mario at San Siro

January 2013: Milan called a twenty-two-year-old striker back from England — a Milanese who came through the academy of their Inter rivals. He took the number 45, the one he'd worn since his debut, and scored twice in his first appearance.

⚽ A brace on debut. Balotelli arrived in the January 2013 window and scored two goals in his very first match in the rossonero shirt.

🥉 Third in Serie A. Milan finished on the podium in 2012-2013 and qualified for the Champions League — hence the Starball on the sleeve.

🔢 Why 45? Balotelli wore it throughout his career, from his professional debut onwards. An unmistakable number, and one of the reasons his shirts stay in such demand.

🎨 A white polo collar on red and black — adidas produced one of the club's smartest home shirts here, with a crisp collar cutting across the stripes. That's what makes this model instantly identifiable among every Milan shirt of the decade.

❓ Frequently asked questions about this shirt

What exactly is a TechFit version?

It's the shirt players actually wore on the pitch, as opposed to the version sold in shops. adidas used a stretchy compression fabric, flat seams and a close-fitting cut designed for performance. In practice: rarer, more technical, and it runs much smaller. The TECHFIT marking inside the sleeve (photo 6) is the signature of that version.

40 cm wide — is that not a mistake?

No, that's the real measurement, and it's normal on a TechFit. For comparison, the retail version of the same shirt in size S measures between 48 and 50 cm. The fabric is very stretchy and gives as you put it on, but the shirt is still designed to be worn tight. If you want a relaxed fit, this isn't the right shirt.

Is the nameset original?

Two things to separate here. The Fly Emirates sponsor on the front is original, factory-applied in 2012 — hence its light wear. The BALOTELLI No.45 nameset on the back, however, is a premium reproduction that I applied by hand in my workshop, in the official font of the season. The shirt itself is 100% authentic.

And the Champions League and RESPECT patches?

Applied in my workshop too, at the same time as the back nameset. So they aren't period patches and they aren't proof of anything. What proves authenticity is the referenced label, the inner TECHFIT marking, the embroidered crest and the knit — not what was added afterwards.

How do you know it's really 2012-2013?

The inner label carries the adidas reference W37548 and the production date 04/12. April 2012 matches the run produced for the 2012-2013 season: the two pieces of information line up, and you can check the reference yourself.

Will the sponsor wear get worse?

Very slowly, as on every shirt of this age. Wash at 30°C inside out, no tumble dryer, no iron on the print. Above all, don't iron it "to smooth it out": the heat cooks the vinyl and speeds up the peeling.

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Sent within 48 working hours with Colissimo tracking (€5.99 in mainland France, free from €100 — so free on this shirt). International rates and delivery times are detailed in my shipping FAQ. Returns accepted within 14 days if unworn.
