Nearly thirty years old, and still remarkable. No holes, no stains, no snags. The sky blue hasn't faded, the white ribbed collar hasn't yellowed, the three stripes are intact. The Parmalat sponsor and the central disc are full, with no cracking or peeling (see the close-up in photo 3). The embroidered crest and the gold star are flawless. Honestly, one of the finest examples from this era I've had in my hands.

• Period adidas neck label (photo 5): the size conversion table using national flags (D / GB / I / E / F / US / CH / CDN) is the hallmark of 1990s adidas production — it disappears from modern labels, and fakes reproduce it very poorly

📖 1996: Marseille come back up, the star stays

This shirt belongs to a very particular moment in Marseille's history. After two seasons in the second division, OM returned to the French top flight in 1996. The club had lost everything except one thing: the gold star stitched above the crest. It's there, on this sky blue chest, reminding every opponent what this club did one night in May 1993.

📅 26 May 1993, Munich — Marseille 1-0 AC Milan. A Basile Boli header from an Abedi Pelé corner. OM became the first and, to this day, the only French club to have won the European Cup / Champions League. That win is what the star on this shirt celebrates.

📅 Summer 1996 — back in the top flight. After two seasons spent in Division 2, Olympique de Marseille returned to Division 1. The Vélodrome got its big nights back, and this sky blue away shirt was part of that first season back.

📅 Parmalat, the sponsor of an era. The Italian group's white disc with its navy rosette is inseparable from 1990s Marseille imagery. Today it's exactly that logo collectors hunt for — it will never return to an OM shirt.

👑 The sky blue away — Marseille normally play in white at home. The sky blue aways of the 1990s, with their jacquard fabric engraved « DROIT AU BUT », are among the club's most sought-after designs: rarer than the home shirts, just as recognisable.
