Workshop note — On City shirts from the Umbro era, I always read the motto on the scroll: "Superbia in Proelio" must be legibly embroidered despite its small size. I then check the woven Official Product label, whose red number must be sharp and even.
Agüero, the 93:20 man
Sergio Agüero arrived from Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2011 and took the number 16. In his very first season, he scored the most famous goal in the club's history.
13 May 2012: against QPR, in the 94th minute, Agüero scores to make it 3-2 and gives Manchester City their first English title since 1968. The time of the goal, 93:20, has become a symbol for the fans.
In 2012-2013, City therefore wore the gold champions' badges on the sleeves. The club finished second in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup final, lost to Wigan.
It was also Umbro's last season as the club's kit supplier, before the switch to Nike in 2013.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the sleeve badges gold?
The Premier League reserves these gold badges for the reigning champions. City wore them in 2012-2013, after the title snatched in May 2012.
Why "Kun" in the flocking?
"Kun" is Sergio Agüero's childhood nickname. He displayed it on the back of his Manchester City shirt, hence this KUN AGÜERO flocking.
How can I check the shirt is authentic?
Look for the woven Official Product label in the side seam, then check the crest embroidery: the "Superbia in Proelio" motto must remain legible. The Umbro collar marking completes the check.
How does this L fit?
It measures 50 cm pit to pit and 74 cm in length. The cut is slim: it will suit an M who likes some room, or an L who wants it close to the body.
