⚠️ Read this before buying

The inner collar label has been cut out by a previous owner — the classic move of someone the label was scratching. What's left is the white edge caught in the seam, visible in photo 4. Direct consequence: this shirt no longer has a readable product code or production date, so I can't give you either. I rely on other markers to authenticate it, detailed below. The fabric itself is neither pierced nor frayed.

📐 Flat measurements

Width (pit to pit)51 cm
Length (shoulder to hem)71 cm

Lay a shirt that fits you well flat, measure it the same way and compare — vintage often sizes differently from new. It matters even more here: the size label has been cut off, so the measurements are your only reliable reference.

9.5/10

Shirt condition

Near mint

The black is deep, with no greying and no lightened areas at the shoulders — the first thing I check on a dark shirt, and it's faultless. The yellow of the Qatar Foundation sponsor and of the nameset hasn't dulled. The textured knit is intact, with no pilling. The collar sits straight and the LFP patch is firmly attached. Only point to flag: the cut collar label described above (photo 4).

Unsure about the size? This 2011 Nike M is narrow and short (51 x 71 cm), like every cut of that era: do compare the flat measurements above, or read my size guide.

100% AUTHENTIC

✦ Authenticity guaranteed for life

Item checked by hand in my authentication workshop. If a piece bought from me is ever identified as a fake, I refund it in full. Guarantee with no expiry date.

With the collar label cut off, I can't lean on it. So here's what I did lean on — and there's plenty:

  • The sewn "AUTHENTIC" tab at the bottom right: that small woven rectangle with the swoosh, visible in photo 2, only appears on official Nike shirts from this period. It's stitched on three sides, not heat-pressed
  • Original LFP patch, factory-applied: I didn't add it. The multicoloured "LFP" logo was replaced by "LaLiga" in 2016 — its presence caps the dating before that date
  • "més que un club" screen-printed under the front collar: the Catalan motto, in small handwritten capitals above the swoosh. Copies either omit it or put it on the back
  • Raised embroidered FCB crest, and above all the small Catalan flag woven under the back collar, above the name: four red bars on yellow, embroidered rather than printed
  • Real photos of the exact shirt for sale, never stock images — full method in my authentication guide

🛠️ Workshop note — A cut label scares plenty of buyers, and I understand why: it's also what some sellers do to hide a fake. So here's how I settle it when it comes up. A label cut for comfort leaves a clean edge inside the original seam, with no re-sewing — that's the case here, look at photo 4. A label removed to hide something almost always leaves a seam that has been unpicked and redone, or a gap in the tidiness of the collar. Then I switch to what isn't easily faked: the weight of the knit, the density of the embroidery, the sewn AUTHENTIC tab. This shirt passes every one of those tests. Otherwise it wouldn't be online.

📖 The season of 73 goals

Some football seasons will never be played again. 2011-2012 is the one where a twenty-four-year-old pushed past limits everyone assumed had been settled for decades — and this black shirt is its most understated witness.

⚽ 73 goals in one season. Across all competitions Messi scored 73 goals in 2011-2012, including 50 in La Liga: two records that still stand.

👋 Guardiola's final year. Pep left the Barcelona bench at the end of this season, after four years. The end of a cycle that redefined the game.

🏆 Copa del Rey 2012. Barcelona won the Spanish cup, the last trophy lifted under Guardiola.

🎨 Black, at Barcelona — it's rare, and that's what gives this shirt its value among collectors: an all-black away kit, lifted by the yellow of the sponsor and the nameset. The club only returns to it exceptionally.

👉 More blaugrana pieces are waiting in my FC Barcelona shirts, and every one of the Argentine's namesets is gathered in my Messi shirts.

❓ Frequently asked questions about this shirt

Isn't a cut label suspicious?

It's the right question to ask, and I'd rather answer it straight. In the vast majority of cases the collar label is cut because it was scratching the neck — nothing more. What should raise a flag is a seam that has been unpicked and redone, or a collar deformed around that area. Here the cut is clean, inside the original seam, and the collar hasn't been reworked (photo 4). I validated authenticity on the other markers listed in the block above, and my lifetime guarantee applies exactly as it does on every other piece.

How do you know it's 2011-2012 without a label?

By cross-checking three datable elements. The Qatar Foundation sponsor was only worn by Barcelona from 2011 to 2013 — before that the chest was bare or carried unicef. The LFP patch disappears in 2016. And this black model with textured shoulder panels is specific to the 2011-2012 season. The three windows overlap on a single year.

Is the nameset original?

No, and I'd rather be straight with you: the shirt is 100% authentic, but the MESSI No.10 nameset is a premium reproduction that I applied by hand in my workshop, in the official font of the 2011-2012 season. That's an advantage: it's brand new, guaranteed not to crack or peel.

And the LFP sleeve patch?

That one is original, factory-applied — I didn't touch it. It isn't systematic on the pieces I sell: when a patch is applied in the workshop, I always say so. Here, the multicoloured LFP logo is genuinely the pre-2016 La Liga one.

How can you be sure it's an M?

From the measurements, since the size label went with the rest. 51 cm pit to pit and 71 cm long match the Nike M of that generation. I give you the raw figures so you can judge for yourself: it's more reliable than a letter on a label.

Has the black faded?

No. It's the first thing I check on a dark shirt: no greying, no lightened areas at the shoulders or elbows, and the black stays consistent between the body and the sleeves. The photos are of the exact shirt for sale.

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Sent within 48 working hours with Colissimo tracking (€5.99 in mainland France, free from €100). International rates and delivery times are detailed in my shipping FAQ. Returns accepted within 14 days if unworn.
