📐 Flat measurements

Width (pit to pit) 66 cm
Length (shoulder to hem) 84 cm

Lay flat a shirt that fits you well, measure it the same way and compare — vintage often sizes differently from new, and this 2008 Nike XXL is particularly generous.

10/10

Shirt condition

Perfect condition

No flaws, which is remarkable on a 2008 shirt. The claret and the blue are deep, with no fading and no difference in tone between the two halves — on a vertically split design, the slightest discolouration on one side would jump out. The MESSI No.10 nameset in yellow with gold outline is intact, with no cracking and no lifted edges. The embroidered FCB crest is sharp, the yellow UNICEF sponsor is clean, the LFP patch on the sleeve is spotless, and the yellow and red Catalan stripes at the nape are flawless. All inner labels present, including the Catalan anthem tab.

Size XXL (see flat measurements above)
Manufacturer Nike (FIT DRY technology)
Season 2008-2009 — Guardiola's historic treble
Version Vertically split blaugrana home kit, V-neck, Catalan stripes at the nape
Sponsor UNICEF — the sponsor the club paid, rather than the other way round
Nameset MESSI No.10 in yellow, gold outline, FCB crests inside the digits
Patches LFP on the left sleeve (Spanish league version)
Auth. code 286784-655 (independently verifiable)

Unsure about the size? This 2008 Nike XXL is very roomy (66 x 84 cm) and much bigger than a current XXL: compare the flat measurements above, or check my sizing guide.

100% AUTHENTIC

✦ Authenticity guaranteed for life

Item checked by hand in my authentication workshop. If an item bought from me is ever identified as a counterfeit, I refund it in full. Guarantee with no expiry date.

  • Inner label photographed (photo 4): Nike reference 286784-655, F8 HIT marking and XXL size. The 655 suffix corresponds to Barça's Nike home colourway in this period
  • “El Cant del Barça” collar label: the words of the Catalan anthem printed inside the collar, with the “més que un club” motto. A detail specific to official shirts of those years, which copies leave out or reproduce as blurred text
  • The vertical split falls exactly on the centre line: the claret / blue boundary runs through the middle of the collar and straight down to the hem, front and back. On a copy it drifts or shifts at the shoulders
  • UNICEF sponsor and LFP patch: no commercial sponsor on the chest, which is Barça's official configuration for this era, and the LFP places this example in the Spanish league version
  • Real photos of the exact shirt you receive, never stock images — full method in my authentication guide

🛠️ Workshop note — Zoom in on the bottom of the 1 and the 0 in photo 5: a miniature Barça crest is printed inside each digit, gold on yellow. You really have to bring your eye close to see it. The counterfeit namesets I receive stop at yellow with a gold outline and systematically forget these two crests — it is my first reflex on this shirt.

📖 The treble shirt, and Messi's first No.10

If you could keep only one modern Barça shirt, many would choose this one. It is the season when everything turns — for the club and for Messi.

🏆 2008-2009 — the treble. La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Champions League in the same season. Guardiola's Barça become the first Spanish club to achieve it.

🔟 The number 10 changes shoulders. Ronaldinho leaves in summer 2008 and Messi inherits the 10. This is the first season he wears it — this nameset marks precisely that handover.

🏅 The first Ballon d'Or. At the end of this season Messi wins the 2009 Ballon d'Or, the first of a run that has never had an equivalent.

🧵 UNICEF on the chest — at a time when every club sells its front to the highest bidder, Barça pay to display a humanitarian organisation. That decision, as much as the football, made this shirt a legend.

🎯 Who is this shirt for?

← Swipe →

01

The Messi fan

His very first season with the 10 on his back, and his first Ballon d'Or at the end of it.

02

The treble collector

Liga, Copa and Champions League in one year: few shirts carry a season that loaded.

03

The UNICEF-era enthusiast

A chest with no commercial sponsor: a period Barça has definitively closed since.

04

Anyone hunting an XXL

66 cm pit to pit: large vintage sizes in as-new condition are rare, and this is one of them.

Not sure? My Mystery Box offer is an excellent alternative — just write “FC Barcelona” in the order notes.

❓ Frequently asked questions about this shirt

How do you know it really is 2008-2009?

The Nike reference 286784-655 read on the label (photo 4) matches Barça's home kit for that season. The design split vertically into two solid halves, with no stripes, was only used that year: the two line up.

Did Messi really wear the 10 that season?

Yes. He wore 19 until 2008, then inherited the 10 after Ronaldinho left in summer 2008. The 2008-2009 season is therefore the first in which he played with that number, the one he kept until his departure.

Have the colours faded?

No. The claret and the blue are deep and perfectly even. On a model split into two solid halves, the slightest difference in tone would be immediate — there is none. No underarm halos either.

Is this shirt authentic?

Yes. Nike reference 286784-655 on the label, “El Cant del Barça” collar tab, embroidered FCB crest, official LFP patch and a nameset with miniature crests built into the digits. Authenticity guaranteed for life.

How does this XXL fit?

Measured flat: 66 cm pit to pit and 84 cm long. This is a genuinely large 2008 XXL, noticeably roomier than an XXL today. If you wear a modern XL, it will give you a loose fit.

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Dispatched within 48 working hours with tracked Colissimo delivery (€5.99 in mainland France, free over €100). International rates and delivery times are detailed on my shipping FAQ. Returns accepted within 14 days if unworn.
