📐 Flat measurements

Width (pit to pit) 52 cm
Length (shoulder to hem) 74 cm

Note that Kappa generally runs smaller than other kit makers: this L measures 52 cm across, closer to an adidas or Nike M. Lay a shirt that fits you well flat and compare before ordering.

Mint condition

No flaws at all, on a shirt more than thirteen years old. The BVB yellow is still bright — on this colour a single faded patch would ruin the piece, and there is none. The graduated black square pattern is perfectly crisp, with no bleeding and no missing squares. The Evonik logo, printed in purple and silver, shows no cracking. The KAGAWA 23 print is flawless, including the miniature BVB crests inside the numbers and the “DORTMUND” band below. Embroidered crest and gold star intact, black V-neck with no stretching, the “Echte Liebe.” collar tape perfectly legible, no pilling.

Size Kappa L (see flat measurements above)
Brand Kappa (100% polyester)
Season 2011-2012 — the double-winning season under Jürgen Klopp
Version Home, yellow with a graduated black square pattern, black V-neck

Printing KAGAWA No.23 in black, BVB crests built into the base of the numbers, DORTMUND band below
Patches No sleeve patch — German league version
Inner markings “Echte Liebe.” collar tape with Kappa and BVB logos, label RN #98832 (independently verifiable)

Unsure about the size? This Kappa L is closer to a European M (52 x 74 cm): compare the flat measurements above, or check my sizing guide.

100% AUTHENTIC

✦ Authenticity guaranteed for life

Item checked by hand in my authentication workshop. If an item bought from me is ever identified as a counterfeit, I refund it in full. Guarantee with no expiry date.

  • Woven “Echte Liebe.” collar tape (photo 5): the club's slogan alternates with the Kappa and BVB logos, woven in yellow on black. It is a woven ribbon, not printed — copies use a transfer that flakes off
  • Original composition label (photo 6) with RN #98832, CA #34769 and multilingual “100% Poliestere / Polyester” wording. Kappa being Italian, that language hierarchy is a marker in itself
  • The square pattern is dyed into the knit, not screen-printed: it reappears as a faded negative on the reverse (visible in photo 6), and the fabric stays soft everywhere
  • Embroidered crest with a separately embroidered gold star (photo 3): the star marking the club's Bundesliga record is stitched independently above the badge, not printed with it
  • Real photos of the exact item sold, never stock images — full method in my authentication guide

🛠️ Workshop note — Look at the back in photo 1: below the number, the word “DORTMUND” is printed in large letters. Very few European clubs do that, and it is specific to this generation of BVB shirts — a re-print settles for name and number only. Then zoom in on the base of the 2 and the 3 in photo 4: each number contains a miniature yellow BVB 09 crest, circle and lettering included. Two details that only exist together on official Kappa printing from that season.

📖 Klopp's Dortmund at its peak

The yellow wall, the pressing, Klopp roaring on the touchline: 2011-2012 is the season Borussia Dortmund dominated Germany like never before. This shirt comes from there.

🏆 The Bundesliga-DFB Pokal double. Dortmund retained the league title then crushed Bayern 5-2 in the cup final. The first double in the club's history.

🇯🇵 Kagawa, the Japanese revelation. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was one of the architects of the title. He joined Manchester United in the summer of 2012, which makes this one of the last shirts of his Dortmund spell.

❤️ “Echte Liebe”. “True love”: BVB's slogan, woven into the collar of this shirt. Three words that sum up the bond between this club and its city.

🎨 The square pattern, signature of the Kappa era — black pixels that grow denser towards the hem. Kappa only supplied BVB for a few seasons, which makes this generation noticeably rarer than the Puma shirts that followed.

🎯 Who is this shirt for?

← Swipe →

01

The Klopp-era nostalgic

The double-winning season, the one where BVB brought Bayern down. The peak of a cult side.

02

The Kagawa fan

His last Dortmund shirt before Manchester United. A print in high demand in Japan.

03

The Kappa collector

Kappa only supplied BVB for a few seasons: far rarer than the Puma shirts that followed.

04

The condition purist

10/10 on a bright yellow thirteen years old: the colour that forgives the least in the wash. Here, nothing.

Not sure? My Mystery Box offer is a great alternative — just write “Dortmund” in the order notes.

❓ Frequently asked questions about this shirt

Does this Kappa L run small?

Yes, and it is the most important point: Kappa consistently runs smaller than other kit makers. This L measures 52 cm across and 74 cm long, closer to an adidas or Nike M. Trust the flat measurements, not the label.

What does “Echte Liebe” mean?

“True love” in German. It is Borussia Dortmund's official slogan, woven in yellow into the collar tape of this shirt (photo 5). A detail copies replace with a plain ribbon.

Has the yellow faded?

No, and that is the first thing I check on a Dortmund shirt. No washed-out areas, no shoulder haze, no tonal difference between front and back. The yellow is as bright as it was originally. The photos show the exact item sold.

Is this shirt authentic?

Yes. Woven “Echte Liebe.” collar tape, original composition label with RN and CA numbers, pattern dyed into the knit, embroidered crest with a separate star and official printing with miniature crests and the DORTMUND band. Lifetime authenticity guarantee, full refund if a doubt is ever proven.

Why are there no sleeve patches?

Because this is the Bundesliga version. The German league does not use sleeve patches on club shirts, unlike the Premier League or La Liga. Champions League shirts from the same season carry the starball and RESPECT instead.

How much is shipping and how long does it take?

Shipped within 48 working hours with Colissimo tracking (€5.99 in mainland France, free over €100). International rates and delivery times are detailed in my shipping FAQ. Returns accepted within 14 days if unworn.
